Pasadena Unified School District Planting

HBT is planting about 2000 trees in PUSD campuses between November 2003 and June 2004.

This project has been taken place with the participation of students, community members and PUSD officials.

Previous to the actual planting at each school, HBT staff shares a classroom educational session with the students. At this session, students learn the structure as well as the benefits of trees and the care they need for their survival.

HBT expects to have 1411 trees planted by April 17  2004 while celebrating Earth Day. Currently there are 17 campuses planted. Among these campuses are Audubon, Sierra Madre, Daniel Webster, Loma Alta, Altadena, Sierra Mesa, Burbank, Jackson, Franklin, Pasadena, Jefferson, and Marshall.

Environmental Assessment of 40 PUSD Education Sites

HBT has conducted an environmental assessment of 40 PUSD, which has the purpose of analyzing the ecological conditions on individual campuses and improving those condition in a follow up tree planting.

The assessment has produced a data base of existing trees of each campus at the time of surveying, a City Green environmental report, and a map for each campus showing location of trees, open areas, and buildings.

The assessment is currently being followed by the planting of about 2000 trees through all campuses. The planting will benefit students by generating shade, improving air quality, storing carbon dioxide, and reducing storm water run off.
