HBT Mission StatementHBT's mission is to enhance the quality of life in Los Angeles by teaching and empowering people to change their environments through community capacity building, physical improvements and job creation. Created in 1992 by neighborhood volunteers. HBT has grown into a respected county wide organization. Through its work, HBT serves entire communities by improving school campuses, neighborhoods and business districts, as well as by providing educational workshops and vocational training to at-risk youth. HBT has adopted over 110 public schools, hired 2,500 youth and implemented 250 mural walls. After first giving instruction in both art and the environment, our staff has mentored over 27,000 children in interactive art, tree planting, and cleaning projects at their own schools. Each year, HBT plants 2,000 trees, abates over two million square feet of graffiti, and removes more than 30 tons of trash from the city streets throughout Los Angeles.
